Yes. I am sitting in the basement, in the dark, watching someone else play through a video game.
I don’t know about you, but watching someone else play a video game is not my idea of the most exciting way to spend my time.
BUT when that someone else is my kid, and she asked me (one might even say invited me) to come watch her play? I’m there in a second. 🤩
If I’ve learned anything from my kid, it’s that connection comes in all different forms.
I don’t love video games (I don’t hate them either, don’t come at me!), but I love my kid. We’re entering into that teen phase were I’m mostly considered cringe or annoying. 😅
Connection matters more than ever at this stage with my kid, and if I limited myself to activities I enjoy, I wouldn’t get much time with her.
And this comes up in so many settings - family, friends, business.
We want to connect with someone, but we only want to do it on our terms… and then we’re confused or frustrated when the connection doesn’t happen. 😬
My challenge to myself (and to you!): what can I do this week to connect with people who are important to me, even if that connection comes in a form I don’t “prefer”.
P.S. Bonus points if you recognize the game on the screen - send me a note. 😁
