“Do you regret getting your MFA in stage management?"
Short answer, no. I use it every day. 💯
People ask me this more often than you’d think. They wonder if getting an MFA in a profession I no longer practice feels like “a waste”. 🤔
Let’s be clear - I will never regret the masters degree training that helped me become a “master” in:
> leading humans to do things that have never been done before
> creating calm and order in the midst of chaos
> building safe spaces for failure and experimentation
> interpreting and negotiating contracts of all sizes
> planning and budgeting massive productions (and tiny ones) with way less money than seems reasonable.
> leading people from all over the world with wildly diverse experiences and expertise, helping them collaborate to create something truly magical together
I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Basically, I have a masters degree in some of the hardest collaborative work on the planet, and I use and grow those skills daily. 😉
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What’s something you learned or earned early on that has shaped who you are today?
