I’ve cried at work.
I’ve cried at work. And I don’t actually think crying at work is a problem.
We’re human. Sh*t happens.
Sometimes when we actually care about our work and other humans, we feel feelings.
Sometimes wet stuff squirts out of our eyes. 🤷🏻♀️
But.
There's an important distinction here between "crying at work" and "crying in front of a specific person I don't fully trust."
Because guess what?
That person you don’t trust - that’s when a few tears at work becomes an issue.
Suddenly you’re “too emotional”.
You’re “taking things too personally”.
You’re “not professional”. 🫠
Let’s talk about what’s really happening here.
This “feedback” says way more about them than it says about you.
If you’re someone who might cry at work every now and then, and you realize you can’t cry in front of a certain person… let that be a signal. You have now learned something important about your work colleagues - who you can trust, and who you need to navigate with care.
What do you do when you notice someone crying at work? Send me a note.
