“Watch out for this doo-doo”
“Watch out for this doo-doo”
Walking down the street the other day, trying to move quickly on my way to an appointment, I found myself walking behind a young family — a dad, deep in conversation with his kid, maybe seven or eight years old.
I thought to myself how cute they seemed as a family, how earnestly the dad and kid were talking to each other.
I wasn’t in a meandering mood that day, though, so I quickened my pace to walk around them.
As I came up on his left side, the dad suddenly turned to me, gestured to the ground, and said brightly: “Watch out for this doo-doo!” and pointed to some fresh poop on the sidewalk.
I hopped to the left (yikes!), and thanked him. He was already back in the conversation with his kid.
And I had this momentary flash of all the times in NYC when I’ve seen people step in sh*t (literally or figuratively), and the people nearby just went “oh man, that sucks” and carried on.
But this dad, who was mid conversation and deeply focused on his kid, took the second to make sure I, a complete stranger, didn’t stomp in some “doo-doo”. And it cost him nothing - he was able to return instantly to his family.
I’ve gotta tell you, the world would be a whole lot better place if we all took a moment to point out the “doo-doo” to each other every now and then.
What do you think - would you point out dog poo to a stranger, or keep to yourself? 💩
