Are you more of a LEGO set person or a LEGO free-form person?

Are you more of a LEGO set person or a LEGO free-form person?

Do you prefer a specific LEGO set with instructions on how to build it with exactly the right pieces in exactly the right order?

Or do you prefer to have a big pile of LEGO to do with however you please?

Or maybe you fall somewhere in between?

Me, I've come to realize I'm more of a LEGO set person - I love the structure and puzzle of finding each piece, putting it in exactly the right spot, and creating something that matches the photo… but I also like to take it a step further to add my own touches.

Put another way - tell me how to do the thing, and I'll follow instructions once. And then I'll figure out how to keep the parts I like and pull apart the rest make it my own.

Show me how you've always done a certain thing - I'll see immediately the reasons why you've done it that way, and what has worked. And I'll also see the parts you can discard, the parts that need reworking, and what you're missing.

I find it's such a fun puzzle to look at something crafted "just so" and figure out how to adjust it, improve it, expand it.

What about you - do you like to build with instructions and then make changes? Or do you prefer to start with a clean slate and do all from scratch?
