What tells you someone in your life has graduated from acquaintance to friend?

What tells you someone in your life has graduated from acquaintance to friend?

For me, this photo says it all - one dessert in the middle of a table with four people.

Sharing a meal, and specifically *how* we share that meal, can prove an interesting barometer of closeness and friendship.

Maybe we order separately and share nothing.
Maybe we offer each other a small taste... but on a separate plate, cut with a clean knife.
Maybe we even suggest ordering family style, and share with serving spoons.

Maybe, as I captured in this photo, we order one tiramisu, four forks, and all dig in together.

Or maybe, as with one of my oldest friends, we eat off each other's plates without asking.
(I know this idea horrifies some people, even for close friends or family 😂)

For me, once we start sharing food and touching the same dish with the same forks… that's a friendship line for sure. 😉

What about you - where do you draw the line for "shared dessert" meals? family? friends? work colleagues? noone?

P.S. Shoutout to Marcia Iacobucci and Paul for inviting my husband and me to a delicious dinner, which we wrapped by sharing this tasty tiramisu. We haven't known each other long Marcia, but you make friendship easy. ❤️
