“You took all of that incoherent blabber and turned it into clarity. I love it.”
I've lost count of the number of times my clients say things like this to me. 😂
They join a session and start talking, for 2 minutes (or 20 minutes 😉). And in their heads, everything might feel like a giant puddle of mush. They have so many things going on, and it's hard to keep track of where they should start first or how they can make progress.
So I listen, and I pull apart in my mind all the pieces they've shared. I reflect back what I've heard, and what challenges it sounds like they’re facing.
Inevitably, me reflecting back exactly what they've said, in a slightly different structure or a more concise way, leads them to realize something. They see something they couldn’t see when it was all floating around inside their head.
And while this moment just scratches the surface of what makes our coaching time valuable, it's the most consistent aha moment each of my clients notices.
Because the truth is we can spin on our own and not really make much progress. But if we sit across the table (or zoom) from someone with the skills to genuinely listen, to respond with thoughtful questions, we can open up for ourselves a whole new perspective.
Who's the last person who asked you a thoughtful question that helped you get out of your head and into clarity?
