“I’ve had a good life”
“I’ve had a good life”
At the end of my mom’s life, she was definitely pissed and sad about everything she would miss, both in general, and and in mine and my brother’s lives.
(she was only 56)
She also said:
“I’ve had a good life.”
It was such a simple statement, and yet so powerful.
I think about it all the time.
She said she had a wonderful husband and great kids.
And plenty of other things I now don't remember…
But I remember how true it felt when she said it.
Since then, I’ve had a similar goal.
I want to be able to go to sleep each night and wake up each morning and say, “I have a good life.”
Does that mean things are not hard or challenge sad?
No.
To me, a good life has many elements.
All the colors of the rainbow.
So, I’m starting a list:
For me, having a good life that means I am…
> choosing to spend time with people who bring me joy
> challenging myself to try new things and learn
> taking time and space to cry when I need it
> showing love to the people I love and telling them often
That’s a start - I’m going to keep working on my list.
What about you?
What’s on your “good life” list?
I’d love to hear. ❤️
