I loved my warm, cozy winter coat hood.
The fuzzy bit stuck out in front of my face, blocked the wind, kept the snow off my nose. I was warm. Happy. No complaints.
Then I watched a video that said I was doing it wrong. That you’re supposed to tuck the fuzzy edge inside the hood for maximum warmth and snow blocking.
So I tried it.
Snowy Brooklyn day, I walked maybe half a block before I was like, “I hate this.”
Snow on my nose. Wind on my forehead. ☹️
So I pulled the fur back out and went on my merry way.
And I had to laugh at myself because I did the thing I coach clients on all the time. 😂
They’re good at their job. They’re doing something that works for them, an approach that gets results.
But then they hear about how someone else does it - a podcast, a book, a conference talk - and suddenly they think, “Wait, am I doing this wrong?”
So they try the new approach.
And it feels off. Not quite right. And they start second-guessing themselves.
”Do I even know what I’m doing?!” 😳
Well I have good news, friend.
Just because someone else does it differently doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
You’re competent, experienced, and getting results.
Sometimes you don’t need a better way.
You just need permission to trust yourself. ❤️
What are you doing right (for you) that you thought you were doing wrong? ⭐️
