I walked just a little bit further, and it changed my whole morning.
This past Saturday, I left my house for a walk - wanted to just get moving and spend a little time outside.
I'd walked about 15 minutes and realized I'd need to turn around soon if I wanted to get home at a reasonable time. But I didn't want to turn around yet...
And then I remember: I live in Brooklyn and the subway is magic. 😂
So instead of turning around, I kept walking all the way to the Saturday Prospect Park Farmer's Market. I got a delicious ginger matcha beverage from the delightful "birdFig vegan cafe" booth. I walked among happy humans buying delicious fresh farmer's market fare.
And then I hopped on the subway and headed home.
The whole experience felt completely different than my usual walk around the neighborhood, and yet I basically walked the same amount of steps. But I met and talked to a few strangers, bought from a small business, and just generally experienced the awesomeness of the community.
It's wild how choosing to walk just a little bit further could have such a big impact on my morning. I'm even thinking about making this my new Saturday morning ritual.
Farmer's market people: what's the one booth you always visit?
