Car full of half asleep commuters on an 8:30am subway...and we hear a yelled GOOD MORNING! 😬
My train stop is the end of the line, which means at 8:30am I get to shuffle onto an empty train with my fellow half asleep commuters.
I’m in the front car, and we’re all settling in to our seats, nice and quiet, when —
"Good morning everyone!"
I could feel everyone cringe. Seriously, are we getting “showtime” at 8:30am? 😬
But it was our train conductor, jovially greeting us all as he walked to the front of the car. He made a joke about the weather: "Feels positively tropical out there today after weeks of below freezing temps. Never thought I'd feel warm in 30°. Anyone got sunscreen?"
The lady next to me chuckled, so did I.
The conductor smiled and said, "That's all I've got," and went to drive the train.
I have no idea if this guy loves being a train conductor.
Maybe he does. Maybe he doesn't.
But he had me smiling that morning and thinking to myself - he's clearly finding ways to bring joy to the job he has.
You can show up, do the work, get through it.
Or you can find joy - for yourself and the people around you.
What's one thing you do to bring a little joy to your workday?
